Suicidal Ideation & Self-Harm Support in Bloomfield Hills, MI

Our Clinicians

You Are Not Alone. You Are Not Broken. There Is Help—and Hope.

When emotional pain gets too much, it can feel like there’s no way out. Thoughts of suicide or self-harm may start as a way to cope, escape or make sense of intense inner suffering. You may feel hopeless, numb, exhausted or like a burden to others. But the truth is: you are not alone and you are not beyond help.

At Tranquil Awakenings Counseling & Consultation, we offer compassionate, trauma-informed support for individuals struggling with suicidal thoughts and self-harming behaviors. Our goal is not just crisis prevention—it’s helping you understand your pain, find relief and build a life that feels worth living.

What is Suicidal Ideation and Self-Harm

Suicidal ideation is thinking about ending your life. These thoughts may be passive (“I wish I could disappear”) or active (“I want to die”) and can vary in frequency and intensity.

Self-harm is deliberately hurting yourself—such as cutting, burning, hitting or other behaviors—as a way to cope with overwhelming emotions, numbness or distress. It’s not always linked to suicidal intent but it’s always a sign of deep emotional pain.

You may feel:

  • Trapped, helpless or hopeless
  • Numb or emotionally shut down
  • Overwhelmed by shame, grief or self-loathing
  • Like a burden to others or that your pain is too much
  • Disconnected from your body, identity or purpose
  • Exhausted from pretending you’re okay when you’re not

These feelings are more common than you think—and reaching out for help is a brave and powerful first step.

You Deserve Safety, Compassion and Support

If you’re struggling with suicidal thoughts or self-harm you may worry no one will understand or fear being judged, punished or “locked away”. At Tranquil Awakenings we approach these issues with non-judgmental, client-centered care focused on safety, understanding and healing.

We’ll:

  • Listen to you with empathy and respect
  • Help you understand your emotions and triggers
  • Work with you to build a plan for safety and support
  • Teach you healthy coping and emotional regulation skills* Address the underlying pain—whether it’s trauma, depression, anxiety or identity-based stress
  • Restore a sense of connection, purpose and hope

Our therapists are trained to balance clinical responsibility with warmth and compassion. We will never treat you like a danger—we will treat you like a human being in pain who deserves help.

Our Approach

We tailor support to your specific needs, background and goals. Our approach may include:

  • Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT): A gold-standard treatment for suicidal thoughts and self-harm, focused on emotion regulation, distress tolerance and building a life worth living.
  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT): Helps identify and challenge the beliefs that fuel hopelessness or self-harm urges.
  • Trauma-Informed Therapy: Many individuals with suicidal ideation or self-injury have a history of trauma. We offer a safe space to explore and process these wounds.
  • Mindfulness and Somatic Practices: Support reconnection with your body and nervous system, helping you ground in the present moment.
  • Safety Planning: We work with you—not against you—to create a practical, collaborative plan to keep you safe during difficult times.
  • Attachment-Based Therapy: For clients whose pain is rooted in relational wounds, we help rebuild trust and emotional security.

We never use fear-based tactics or make decisions without involving you. Our priority is helping you stay safe and supported, not isolated or shamed.

Who We Work With

We support:

  • Teens and young adults struggling with identity, academic pressure, peer conflict or emotional overwhelm
  • Adults with depression, trauma, chronic pain, grief or relational loss
  • LGBTQ+ individuals experiencing isolation, discrimination or internalized shame
  • Survivors of abuse, violence or abandonment
  • People living with chronic illness, disability or invisible suffering
  • Clients who have previously attempted suicide or self-harmed and want to build a different path

You are not “too much” and your pain is not something to hide. You are worthy of care, exactly as you are.

Healing Is Possible—Even If You Can’t See It YetYou don’t have to wait until you “hit bottom” to ask for help. You don’t have to have all the answers—or even the words. Therapy is a space to show up as you are, in your pain, confusion or silence, and begin to rebuild from there.

Over time, with support, many clients begin to:

  • Feel relief from emotional pain
  • Build more stable relationships and routines
  • Stop self-harming
  • Find meaning and purpose again
  • Practice self-compassion

You are not alone—and you don’t have to stay in this place forever.
