Sexual Abuse & Assault

You Are Not to Blame. You Deserve Support. You Deserve Healing.

Sexual abuse and assault are some of the most personal and brutal forms of trauma. Whether it happened recently or long ago, once or multiple times, the emotional and psychological impact can be huge and long lasting. Survivors often carry shame, fear, grief and isolation especially when they’ve been silenced, disbelieved or blamed.

At Tranquil Awakenings Counseling Center, we offer compassionate, confidential, trauma-informed therapy for survivors of sexual violence. We believe your story matters, your pain is real and your healing journey deserves to be met with dignity, patience and care.

You Are Not to Blame. You Deserve Support. You Deserve Healing.

What is Sexual Abuse or Assault?

Sexual abuse and assault refers to any unwanted sexual contact, coercion or violation of bodily autonomy. These violations can happen in many forms including:

  • Rape or attempted rape
  • Child sexual abuse
  • Sexual harassment or coercion
  • Incest or abuse by a family member
  • Partner or marital sexual violence
  • Sex trafficking or exploitation
  • Digital sexual violations (revenge porn, image-based abuse)

Survivors may know the perpetrator many are harmed by partners, relatives, friends or authority figures. Others are assaulted by strangers. Regardless of who was involved or what the circumstances were, consent is key and if it wasn’t given freely, without fear or pressure, it wasn’t okay.

Emotional and Psychological Impact

The trauma of sexual abuse or assault affects every area of life. Survivors may experience:

  • Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
  • Anxiety, depression or panic attacks
  • Nightmares or insomnia
  • Hypervigilance or emotional numbness
  • Difficulty with trust, intimacy or relationships
  • Guilt, shame or self-blame
  • Disconnection from one’s body or emotions
  • Low self-esteem or feelings of worthlessness
  • Flashbacks or intrusive memories

Many survivors also struggle to talk about their experience due to fear, cultural stigma or worry about not being believed. At Tranquil Awakenings Counseling Center, you will be met with belief, compassion and respect never judgment.

Inclusive, Culturally-Aware Care

We know sexual violence affects individuals across all identities and communities but not everyone has the same access to safety or support. At Tranquil Awakenings we are committed to inclusive and culturally-aware care. We honor the unique experiences of survivors from communities of color, LGBTQ+ individuals, people with disabilities, immigrants and other marginalized groups who may face compounded trauma due to discrimination, systemic neglect or cultural silencing. Here your voice is valued, your identity is affirmed and your healing journey is yours to define.
