Is Your Child Ready for Kindergarten? Let’s Find Out—Together.
Starting school is a big deal—not just for children, but for families. While age often determines school entry, true readiness involves more than just turning five. It’s about a child’s cognitive, emotional, social and developmental readiness to thrive in a structured learning environment.
At Tranquil Awakenings Counseling Center, we offer School Readiness Testing to help parents, caregivers and educators determine if a child is developmentally ready for preschool or kindergarten. Our assessments are thoughtful, evidence-based and designed to support informed decisions about your child’s next steps.
What Is School Readiness?
School readiness is a big term that means whether a child has the skills and maturity to succeed in early academic settings. These skills include:
- Cognitive Abilities – Problem solving, early math and literacy, memory and attention
- Language Development – Understanding and expressing ideas using age appropriate vocabulary
- Motor Skills – Fine and gross motor development (e.g. writing, cutting, climbing)
- Emotional Regulation – Managing frustration, following directions and coping with transitions
- Social Skills – Sharing, cooperation, peer interaction and communication
- Behavioral Readiness – Sitting for short periods, completing tasks and adapting to structure
Every child develops at their own pace. Readiness assessments help ensure a child enters school with the best chance to learn confidently and happily.
